Prince Rupert Community Foundation funded the Prince Rupert Special Events Society’s project a total of $3,486.
Prince Rupert Special Events Society purchased a much-needed computer and sound system for up-coming events, such as Seafeast, July 1st, Halloween Fest, and Winterfest events in Prince Rupert.
Prince Rupert Community Foundation funded the Prince Rupert and District Hospice Society project a total of $5,000.
Prince Rupert and District Hospice Society purchased much-needed equipment for hospice/palliative care (beds) and bereavement services in Prince Rupert.
Prince Rupert Community Foundation funded School District 52 Project a total of $3,800.
School District 52 purchased new golf clubs to encourage and inspire outdoor activity, collaborating with Prince Rupert Golf Club to offer lessons to encourage new young golfers to the game of golf and the great outdoors.
Prince Rupert Regional Community Foundation funded Prince Rupert Ground Search and Rescue a total of $12,500.
Prince Rupert Regional Community Foundation helped with Prince Rupert Ground Search and Rescue’s fundraiser to purchase a new state of the art rescue command vehicle for the community.
The Greenhouse Pilot Project was a huge success, lasting from March to September 2019. With the generous support from Macro Properties, the Society was able to purchase the containers, soils, seeds, and fertilizers necessary to plant and harvest an entire 100′ greenhouse. The goal of the project was to experiment with the feasibility of large scale container gardening for the purposes of improving food security amongst Nisga’a members in Prince Rupert and Port Edward. By the end of summer, approximately $4,000 worth of cucumbers, tomatoes, carrots, and mixed greens were harvested from the greenhouse and distributed at the Nisga’a Hall. At the highest harvest, over 50 cucumbers per week were being made available. A number of volunteers participated in weekly harvests and growing workshops. The demand and excitement from our members created by this pilot project has been overwhelming, and the Society is now planning for another food security project next year.
Macro Properties funded the Prince Rupert Skating Club CSA Approved Skating Helmet Project to a total of $1,000.
Macro Properties funded the Kaien Trails Society Repairs to the Rushbrook Trail Project a total of $5,000. In late 2018, a wind storm overturned a group of trees, causing a section of the Rushbrook Trail to be damaged. Kaien Trails engaged Bear Creek Contracting to remove the overturned trees, stabilize the bank, and grade the trail to re-establish continuous access. The work was completed in early 2019, and improved the overall accessibility and safety of the trail. This project was funded by the 2018 Macro Properties Coastal Partnership Grant.
